About Art Hour at the Duchess Hotel

Mornington Peninsula, 1999. Joan, now a grandmother, checks into the Duchess Hotel to rediscover herself after decades of being who her husband and family have wanted her to be.

Frances, nearing 80, seeks refuge at the hotel to distract herself from getting old and to avoid her self-absorbed son. Meanwhile, her daughter Alison struggles to manage a chaotic home life while hoping to prove to her mother that she is just as worthy of love as her brother.

And new maid Kirrily juggles work, bills, and family, while longing for more.

Amidst the old-world charm and seaside beauty, the Duchess Hotel offers these women a chance to rediscover themselves and bring some spark back into their lives.
When Joan decides to pick up a brush and start painting for the first time in decades, she inspires Frances and Kirrily – and eventually, Alison- to join her. Over canvas, conversation and creativity they will learn that you should always hold onto your dreams and that new friends can give you the courage to live life on your own terms.
